  • ​New Zealand was the first country to give women the right to vote

  • Since the 1980s, New Zealand has had a strict anti-nuclear policy.  It even led to tension with the US and a breaking of military ties when in 1985 New Zealand refused to allow a US military vessel to dock in Auckland.

  • Manuka Honey was used in World War II for healing wounds and is still kept in hospitals today.

  • New Zealand is the only country where sheep outnumber humans.  There are 30 million sheep to 5 million human beings.

  • New Zealand it was the first country to domesticate and commercially farm wild deer, starting in the 1970s. Today, New Zealand is the world’s largest exporter of venison and a major producer of deer velvet, which is used in traditional medicine and health supplements.
