  • ​Bratislava is known as the coronation city because it being on the Danube made it the perfect location . Between 1563 and 1830 11 Hungarian Kings and 8 Hungarian Queens were crowned at St. Martin's Cathedral.

  • Slovakia was only part of the Austro Hungarian Empire for 51 years.

  • The original name of Bratislava was Pressburg.  It changed to Bratislava with the fall of the Austrian Hungarian Empire in 1919.

  • Slovakia is the largest producer of cars in the world.  Audi, Porsche and Land Rover all have factories there.

  • Slovakia became an independent country in 1993 with the Velvet Revolution and dissolution of Czechoslovakia
