Something I didn't remember about Hawaii is that there are a bunch of wild chickens! In 1992, Hurricane Iniki hit the island of Kauai hard, destroying many chicken coops and releasing domestic chickens into the wild. The lack of natural predators and favorable climates has allowed them to thrive.

Honolulu is home to the only royal palace on American soil, Iolani Palace

Portuguese immigrants came to Honolulu in the late 1800s to work the sugar plantations and brought their food with them: delicious linguiça (sausage) and malasadas (donuts)
